(The Orion Circle #2)
Publication date: October 27th 2015
Genres: Urban Fantasy, Young Adult

Synopsis:

It’s a child’s toy—what could go wrong?
While playing with a spirit board, two sorority sisters summon the vindictive spirits of three women brutally murdered by a psychopath. Join Logan, Kacie, and the rest of the Orion Circle as they delve into the disturbing events of the past to find the key to freeing the spirits.
But this isn’t any ordinary haunting.  These ghosts were banished before, and now they have returned more powerful than anyone could have imagined. Anger breeds hatred and hatred leads to darkness—these phantoms are on the verge of losing their last spark of humanity and becoming completely lost to the shadows.
Can Logan and Kacie convince the tortured souls to embrace the light and move on, or will the spirits succumb to the hypnotic pull of evil, leading to an eternity of torment and suffering?

Review:

This book picks right up from where the last one left off and jumps right into another ghost case! I really enjoy reading about the different cases that all the characters work through.

The way the book ends, I can't wait for the next book because I feel like something big is going to happen in the next book or that someone might die! I won't give away who so you will have to read it to find out!

Review: Tortured Souls by Kimber Leigh Wheaton

Tortured Souls by Kimber Leigh Wheaton

Blurb:

Sometimes Rest in Peace isn't an option...

Kacie Ramsey sees ghosts—and it's ruining her life. Her mother left, her father blames her, and no matter how hard she tries, she can't keep the ghosts away. Now a new power has emerged. Nightly visions of grisly murders and a relentless predator draw her to the brink of insanity.

When the phantom appears at a party, Kacie's longtime crush, Logan, saves her. He invites her to join the Orion Circle, a group of supernatural hunters with chapters in schools all over the country. Through the Circle, Kacie learns to embrace her spiritual powers, and for the first time in her life she feels in control rather than a victim.

But the Foxblood Demon will not give up so easily. A demented serial killer in life who trapped the souls of the thirteen children he murdered, imprisoning them within the walls of his mansion. Now in death, he plots his return while drawing power from the pure souls of the children. He recognizes something in Kacie he's never seen before—a medium powerful enough to provide a vessel for his tainted soul.

Kacie can't ignore the tortured souls of the children crying out to her every night. With Logan at her side, she will fight the Foxblood Demon. But can they banish this powerful phantom, or will Kacie lose not only her body, but her eternal soul to the monster.

Review:

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was a well written young adult book. I enjoy reading a variety of books and this one was somewhat different. It was very toned down with kissing being the furthest the characters got (which is good since it is a young adult book). Many Young Adult book have sex scenes in them. Even if they don't go into detail they almost always have them, but this one is different which is good because not all teens have sex. Quite honestly, I don't think there should be any sex scenes in Young Adult books.

Anyways, now that my rant is done, I can go on about the book. This book was refreshing with ghost hunting being the main topic. It made me think of the TV show Supernatural but with a paranormal twist.

If you like paranormal books with slight romance, then this is the book for you to read!

Review: Under Different Stars by Amy A Bartol

Under Different Stars by Amy A Bartol
The Kricket Series
Book 1

Blurb:

Kricket Hollowell is normally not one to wish upon stars; she believes they’re rarely in her favor. Well versed at dodging caseworkers from Chicago’s foster care system, the past few years on her own have made Kricket an expert at the art of survival and blending in. With her 18th birthday fast approaching, she dreams of the day when she can stop running and find what her heart needs most: a home.

Trey Allairis hates Earth and doubts that anyone from his world can thrive here. What he’s learning of Kricket and her existence away from her true home only confirms his theory. But, when he and Kricket lie together under the stars of Ethar, counting them all may be easier than letting her go.

Kyon Ensin’s secrets number the stars; he knows more about Kricket's gifts than anyone and plans to possess her because of them. He also knows she’s more valuable than any fire in the night sky. He’ll move the heavens and align them all in order to make her his own.

When everything in their world can be broken, will Kricket rely upon love to save her under different stars?

Review:

Kricket Hollowell never fit in, running and making it on her own, she is counting down until her 18th birthday. On that day, she can finally be free, no longer on the run from social services. But one desperate night, one careless wish, she finds herself being hunted by two sets of men who seem to know more about her past that she herself. It turns out there was a reason all along as to why she never fit in, a gift from her mother that has been passed down to her, a gift so valuable, making her wanted by all...

Two very dangerous men, with two different motives. Kyon, from the Alameeda Brotherhood, seems far too at ease when it comes to delivering a lie with a smile. Trey, a general from Skye, a Rafe citizen, seems to be the only one she can trust. At least he has been upfront with his intentions, even if they mean that she would be paying for crimes. Torn between her mother and father's people, Kricket the product of her parent's illicit love affair seems to be the trigger to the impending war between Rafe and Alameeda. While the other houses need to decide who to allay themselves with, for it is inevitable and it seems that Kricket's gifts can be most useful.

Trey and his most trusted men are believed to be the best of the best, so delivering a simple human female to the Reagent of Rafe should be easy now that they found her but they never anticipated for all that is Kricket. She has managed to surprise them and knock them off their feet; with her strength, charm and drive. And while Trey is driven by rules and orders, he can't help how protective and possessive he feels about Kricket. Even if she drives him mad. But under the stars when the walls are down, anything can happen and bloom.

“You trying to stop her heart, sir?” Jax asks in a concerned tone, coming to me and checking me for injuries.

“No, she’s stopping mine,” Trey replies softly

This was a great read! I cannot wait to read more of Krickets story and to learn more about Trey and Kyon! I am obsessed with Trey and Kricket, but I also sort of want to see what it is like for Kricket to be with Kyon. I highly recommend this book who enjoys paranormal books.

About the Author:

I live in Michigan with my husband and our two sons. My family is very supportive of my writing. When I’m writing, they often bring me the take-out menu so that I can call and order them dinner. They listen patiently when I talk about my characters like they’re real. They rarely roll their eyes when I tell them I’ll only be a second while I finish writing a chapter…and then they take off their coats. They ask me how the story is going when I surface after living for hours in a world of my own making. They have learned to accept my “writing uniform” consisting of a slightly unflattering pink fleece jacket, t-shirt, and black yoga pants. Review: Sea of Stars by Amy A Bartol

Sea of Stars by Amy A Bartol
The Kricket Series
Book 2

Blurb:
Eighteen-year-old Kricket Hollowell was looking for her place in the world when she discovered that the universe was bigger—and more dangerous—than she had ever dreamed. Now, whisked across space to the planet Ethar, Kricket learns that her genetic ability to see the future makes her a sought-after commodity…and the catalyst for war between her star-crossed parents’ clans. According to Alameedan prophecy, one house will rise to power and the other will be completely wiped out, and Kricket’s precognition is believed to be the weapon that will tip the scales.

A target of both the Rafe and the Alameeda houses, Kricket finds protection—and a home—in the arms of Trey, her Etharian bodyguard-turned-boyfriend. But her visions of what’s to come disturb her deeply, especially since she must discover whether the gift of foresight will allow her to rewrite the future, or if her fate is as immovable as the stars.

Review:

Sea of Stars picks up where Under Different Stars ends. Rafe and Alameeda continue to fight against each other and tensions are at a high. That’s all great, but the main and heart of the book is Trey and Kricket’s love for each other. There was never a dull moment with them. The majority of the book focuses on Trey and Kricket’s relationship and that’s what hit it for me.

You will love Trey hard, if you had mild feelings for him, it will be piping hot after you finish this book. He really steps his game up and he does everything he can to protect Kricket so that he can be with her. Kricket has the same feelings for him, but Kyon is there and he wants Kricket as well. Kyon will stop at nothing to have Kricket as his and I’ll be honest, this was super-hot for me. Kyon is a villain you love to hate. I love his possessiveness over Kricket and a part of me was rooting for him too.

“My desire for him is insane. He’s not sentimental—neither of us is—and yet he says things to me that strike at the core of my being and speak to the fighter in me. He makes me crave him in the most vulnerable way. I can’t lose him—ever.”

“I’m the dark secret that he can’t keep hidden—his crossed fingers—his hold-my-breath-to-keep-from-feeling. But I make him feel everything.”

“I have a paper heart and he has written notes all over
it.”

Then of course there is Kricket herself. She is such a strong character as she pushes through everything that has come at her during her time in Ethar.

This series just keeps getting better and better. This book was much better than I expected it would be! I am sad to read the next book in the series as I know the next book is the last in the series. I already don’t want it to end. I really enjoy reading the love between Trey and Kricket, but I also kind of want to see that Kricket and Kyon are like together.

Review: Taken by Jessa Fox

Taken by Jessa Fox

Review:

I honestly don't know what I was expecting when I went to read this book, but it was not this! I was completely grossed out and appalled by how the book starts off with a woman being kidnapped only to be rapped! Oh but wait... then she started to like it? And she came multiple times. At this point in the book I was going to throw the towel in and not read anymore. First of all if someone is being rapped, they don't enjoy it or cum a couple of times. It actually made me somewhat serious and confused.

So as I continued reading, I only got more confused, but in the end I think they might have just been role playing the scene from the beginning because at the end, they were together and she was having a baby. Like I stated it was a confusing read, and choppy. I read this book in an hour and was left confused.

If you are looking for a quick read to keep you guessing, then this is a book for you. I think this author can do much better in the future with explain, but she can keep her descriptive sex scenes! That was one major plus of this book. I felt like I was reading porn! The scenes were so descriptive, it felt like you were right there.

Review: Brooklyn Rockstar by Jennifer Ann

Brooklyn Rockstar by Jennifer Ann

Sexy bad boy Charlie Walker had everything he could ever want as a rockstar: a platinum album, a cushioned bank account, and an endless supply of groupies desperate to have him. But things changed when the band's drummer went missing, forcing Charlie to go it alone and question if he truly has what it takes to succeed in the business.

Small-town girl Evelyn Kendall has just arrived in Brooklyn Heights. With a new job and her best friend as a roommate, she's ready for an epic adventure free from her family’s constant supervision. She's not prepared for the muscle-bound, tattooed star who appears out of nowhere and rocks her world.

When Charlie locks gazes with the freckled brunette at his first solo gig, he falls hard and fast for reasons he can’t explain. Determined to keep Evelyn in his life, he’s ready to change his ways, even if they run blood deep. But will their instant attraction be enough to weather the storm brought on by the perils of fame, Charlie’s secrets, and Evelyn’s overly protective brothers?

Warning: This book is filled with sexy bad boys and strong leading ladies. If you’re looking for an engaging read with panty-melting love scenes, then you’ve come to the right place.

Review:

This was my first book by author Jennifer Ann and it won't be the last. I really enjoyed this book and hope there is a second to the series. Hopefully it will be a spin off of Evelyn's roommate and maybe Evelyn's brother getting together. They seemed like they were into one another so I hope to see where that will go.

This was a great story about this sweet and innocent country girl going to the big city to only one day meet this bad boy rockstar with a history the entire world knows. I love each character in their own way. The writing was good and kept me captivated in Evelyn and Charlie's world. If you like books about musician, then this is a must read!

When Jennifer Ann isn't writing heart-wrenching romance novels with hot scenes or chasing her children around southern Minnesota, she either has her nose stuck in someone else's book, is curled up watching a movie, can be found taking pictures of other people (not in a creepy way), or is rocking out at a concert.

Jennifer also writes YA paranormal under Jen Naumann.
