Review: Kindred by Erica Stevens

Kindred by Erica Stevens
Kindred Series
Book 1

Synopsis:

What do you do when the one you love is also you worst enemy? Trapped in a destiny she does not want, Cassie finds herself lost and adrift, until he walks into her life, turning it upside down and awakening her in ways that she never dreamed possible.

Cassie is stunned and devastated to learn that she belongs to a long line of vampire slayers known as The Hunters. A murderous rampage by a group of elder vampires has left the Hunter line decimated and the remaining Hunters scattered around the world. With her friends Chris and Melissa’s aid, Cassie struggles to rid the world of the monsters that murdered her parents. Though Cassie knows it is her fate, she chafes against her heritage, and is resentful of the shortened lifespan that has been placed upon her by the circumstances of birth. Struggling to get through every day, Cassie finds herself simply going through the motions of living. That is, until Devon arrives. Tall, dark, and mysterious his arrival turns the school, and Cassie’s life, upside down. Fighting against her fierce attraction to him, and the chaos he represents in her carefully ordered days, she is irresistibly drawn to him. Though worried that what she truly is will place Devon in danger, she is unable to fight her feelings for him. He is the one light, and the only source of hope she has in a world that revolves around death and fear. What she does not know is that Devon has some dark secrets of his own, secrets even more frightening and dangerous than hers. Secrets that threaten to tear them apart forever.

Review:

This was a great starter book. There was a lot of details and description. This book is a builder book to the story. This book describes the story and works up to the action. It didn’t have much action but it was still a really good book. I actually found the book difficult to put down. Which is always a good sign to me!

I really enjoyed reading Cassie’s relationship with her friends. Even though they were hunters and always training, they still found time to deal with real life issues. The family-like bond between Chris and her was intriguing and made the characters feel real. I don’t know if I believe in love at first sight but I do enjoy reading about it. Devon’s love for Cassie and his protectiveness is great! I love that in male characters. I really enjoy that you can feel their feelings for one another. The pull they have for one another is intense but I like how they take their relationship slow and don’t just jump in or rush into anything. Especially when they both have the really intense dream that felt so real-like to them.

This book was a good read and a good starter book. There were some typo's but nothing crazy!

~~About the Author~~

My name is not really Erica Stevens, it is a pen name that I chose in memory of two amazing friends lost too soon.I was born in New York and moved to Mass as a child. I spent my time growing up between NY and Mass so I have some interesting times when sports games roll around. I was fortunate enough to marry my best friend over two years ago and I don't know what I'd do without him. I have a large, crazy, fun loving family that just loves to laugh. My parents are the strongest people I know. I have an older brother and sister, and a younger sister, who have blessed me with many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. I am nowhere near as old as the great nieces and nephews make me sound. I love to read and have wanted to be a writer since I was nine years old.
