Review: Rival Demons by Sarra Cannon

Rival Demons by Sarra Cannon
Peachville High Demons
Book 5

Synopsis:

After narrowly escaping death at the hand of the Order of Shadows, Harper finds herself thrust into the strange and beautiful world of the shadow demons. But crossing through the portal doesn’t mean she is safe. The Order of Shadows is determined to bring her home and transfer the Prima line to the Harris family. They send their most vicious hunters after Harper. Hunters who will not stop until they have found their prey.
Determined to keep her safe, Jackson takes her deep into an underground world filled with dangers of its own. Here, Harper will begin a journey that will teach her more about herself and her own path than she ever imagined possible.
But will her relationship with Jackson survive?

Review:

Omg! I swear this series just keeps getting better and better! I loved this book!

It starts off right where it left off with Harper, Jackson, Lea, and Mary Anne in the Demon World hiding from the Order of Shadows. They got away from the order at the moment but the entire time they need to be extremely careful!

Jackson and Harper take some interesting turns in this book! Right after they cross over, Jackson tells Harper that down in the Demon world, they cannot be together because they will definitely be killed. We later learned that it was more than that. Lea is the princess of the North and Jackson has been promised to marry her since their births.

Trying to stay hidden from the hunters and certain demons, they travel into the Underworld where they are kept safe for a limited time. They were in the process of coming up with ideas to take down the Order of Shadows but when the leaders caught gets put in danger from a hunter looking for Harper, they demand she leaves. The only one who leaves with her is Jackson of course. Lea tells everyone he must go and help the one he loves. By doing this she sets him free and is letting him be with Harper even though it breaks her heart. Right before leaving, their leader gives them a book that might come in handy to help break the demon curse.

Reading this book Jackson and Harper come across how to break the curse but the worse part is they need to cross into the South which they hear is really difficult to do and that no one really survives it. The two of them search for a cave for the blue stone which is the stone of the Peachville Coven. Once they find the cave hunters come but Harper takes two of the three out while the other ran. Harper came across some new power of hers where she turned  into smoke like what a shadow demon does.

When they are through, there is an army from the South, but instead of attacking they they tell her they are taking her to meet her father. She is shocked and confused at the same time by what is going on but she goes with them to find out. Upon arriving at the dome, everyone lines up and is looking at her and some even are bowing. Jackson tells her that there are humans and demons that live here which is different and intriguing! I really can't wait to lean more about this place. Finally they enter the castle and when they do, Harper sees the man from her dreams who is the King of the South! Yes Harper is a princess and half demon!

OMG! This was really a great read! I can't wait to learn more in the next and final book to this series!

Review: Ashes by Erica Stevens

Ashes by Erica Stevens
Kindred Series
Book 2

Synopsis:

For the past four years Cassie has only known vampires as her enemy. With the revelation of Devon’s true nature she must come to terms with the fact that not everything she knows is right, especially when the source of her Hunter powers is revealed. Slowly, Cassie begins to unravel the mystery that enshrouds Devon as the bond between them grows and intensifies. It’s not until a woman from his past walks into their present, that Cassie realizes there are far more layers to Devon than she ever realized. Layers that may very well destroy her, and everyone that she loves.

Thrown off by the new arrival in their town, and struggling to survive, Cassie is not prepared for the devastating blow that leaves the world she knows nothing but a pile of rubble and ashes. Ashes that may very well give rise to something else inside of her, something that’s not entirely human.

Review:

I am the type of person who buys all the books in a series just so I can find out how it ends and this series was no exception. This book picked up right where Kindred had ended. Devon had healed the worst of Cassie’s injuries but it still wasn’t enough so he rushed her to the hospital. Since there were many questions from the doctors about what happened and how she has survived, Devon needed to use his mind control to change what they saw.

Once Cassie’s friends all arrive, it hits them what Devon is and they first instinct is hatred and killing him. They all have different opinions, but they come to terms with one another for Cassie’s sake. The true reason Cassie’s friends have accepted Devon is because of how alive and happy she is with him around. She is no longer going through the same motions every day since meeting him. Cassie’s grandmother took a liking to Devon immediately and told them they all need to stay close to him as he will protect all of them. While Cassie learns more about Devon’s past, she gains a new friend but she also gains a few enemies.

You meet two of Devon’s friends from the past, Julian and Isla. I really enjoy what happens and their reunion… I don’t want to say more and completely give it away, but wow! When you read this book focus on the details of Cassie’s eyes and every detail about her because it is important.

I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait to start the next book in the series!

“I’m not sure you want me
cooking for you, or anyone else. I feel like you kidnapped me and you’re trying to give me this life that’s not really mine. I don’t feel like the type to be controlled.”

Paxton placed a finger over both my lips and shushed me with a quiet, “Shhh, hush now. I assure you with everything in me that you are the type to be controlled. That’s why you suck my dick. That’s why your legs fall apart whenever I come near you. You’re a slut. My slut. I own you.” His dry, sultry words,  touched my lips while his fingsers slid down the middle of my neck. One straight line. The dry swallow stuck in my chest when his hold over me wrapped gently around my throat. His grip tightened and his lips met mine. “Shhh, don’t talk, baby girl. Turn around and go take a shower like you were told”
My eyes cowardly dropped to the floor and I submitted.

Booking Blitz and Review: Fallen Crest University by Tijan

Fallen Crest University by Tijan
Fallen Crest Series
Book 5

Blurb:
Fallen Crest is back with a vengeance!
Samantha, Mason, and Logan are all together and united with one common enemy: Park Sebastian, the king of fraternity douchebags.
With professional football scouts eyeing his every move, Mason Kade has to walk the line for the first time in his life. Any move he makes against Sebastian has to be perfect and under the radar. One mistake, and his career is over.
Sebastian has other plans. Mason’s career isn’t his target—not even close. Wanting to destroy Mason completely, Sebastian knows he must hit him where it hurts the most: Samantha, who doesn’t give a rat’s ass that she’s the target.
Sam is bound and determined to protect Mason herself, no matter the cost, but what if the cost is beyond her imagination? What if this time, the villain wins?

Review:
Once again Tijan has written another great book to the Fallen Crest Series! This one was just as good as the others! This is the first series I have read by Tijan and I cannot wait to dive into another series!

This book was intense from the beginning to the end! I didn’t know what was going to happen but I did know the Kades would always be there to protect one another… and they did just that.

As always I still love the main characters Sam, Mason, and Logan. Sam got more domineering and wouldn’t let anyone push her down like in the past. It was nice to see Sam with her spunk and fight back in her. Mason was still himself, but he really had to be careful with what he would do because he could easily get kicked out of College and loose his scholarship, plus a chance to go pro. Logan was the same snarky Logan, but he was looking for even more fights in this book and they were all targeted at Sebastian.

Sebastian …. Well I’m not a fan of him and I doubt many people are. I thought at one point in the book that he might actually come to care for Sam (you will find out why I thought this and *hint hint* it has to do with Giddeon). He really does end up getting what he deserves, but the way it ended with him did surprise me… sorry I don’t want to give anymore away.

Then there is Summer…. I really liked her and I was happy Sam found a friend who wasn’t jealous of her and genuinely liked her as well. I thought it was really strange as to how she would act around Mason and Logan, but you eventually find out why she acts this way and you look back saying “oh that makes sense now”. Ugh I really want to tell you about Summer and it will shock you, but at the same time you also knew it in the back of your mind. Well I guess you will just have to find out for yourself when you read the book!

With the Fearsome Foursome back in full swing, I can’t wait to see what the next book in the series will hold.

Tijan has an amazing talent for writing and a great knack for coming up with great story lines. Within one book, you feel anger, hatred, love, hope, happiness, and of course the bitchiness! It is like a whirlwind with emotions, but it makes you connect to the characters even more. I completely love this series and I cannot wait until the next Fallen Crest book comes out this Winter!! Can you please make it sooner Tijan because I am going to have Logan and Mason withdrawals!?

She was confident. She moved with purpose.
It hit me how much she changed from when she’d moved in with Analise. She’d lost everything. She hadn’t cared about anything, and she had been a badass because of it—striking out, not giving a shit. Logan and I took her in, and then she had something to lose—me. She got scared. She was pushed around by the girls and bullied by her own mother, and through all that crap, she’d still fought. She’d clawed her way back up, protecting and loving Logan and me at the same time.
Good god. I wanted to pull her on top of me. I wanted to lose myself in her.
When I sat on the couch, Sam had a knowing grin, and she sat right where I wanted her, right where maybe she shouldn’t have. My hands held her hips as she straddled me. She looped her arms around my neck and rested her forehead to mine.
Her grin never dimmed, not even as she teased, “Why do I feel like we’re in high school, and I don’t want my mom to catch us making out in the basement?”
Shit, I love this woman.
A smooth and lazy low laugh flitted from her lips. I waited for her to find my mouth with hers, but she didn’t.
She held back and her eyes traced over my face. “What happened today?”
I wasn’t going to tell her. More time. I needed more time.

I didn’t begin writing until after undergraduate college. There’d been storylines and characters in my head all my life, but it came to a boiling point one day and I HAD to get them out of me. So the computer was booted up and I FINALLY felt it click. Writing is what I needed to do. After that, I had to teach myself how to write. I can’t blame my teachers for not teaching me all those years in school. It was my fault. I was one of the students that was wishing I was anywhere but at school! So after that day, it took me lots of work until I was able to put together something that resembled a novel. I’m hoping I got it right since someone must be reading this profile! And I hope you keep enjoying my future stories.

Review: Forever Marked by Lady J

Title:  Forever Marked
Author: Lady J

Synopsis:

If you were a marked woman, how far would you run?

At only 23 years old, Ellora's life is turned upside down. She captures the unwanted attention of a dangerously ruthless man, who'll stop at nothing until he possesses her. Haunted by nightmares of the brutal attack she survived, Ellora flees the country desperate to hide. But, the longer she runs the deeper his obsession grows.

Behr is a hard working bachelor who's life is stuck on repeat. Every single day is filled with the same people, and the same routine. That is, until a beautiful stranger stumbles into the local pub and into his heart. Even though he's immediately drawn to her raven black hair and deep green eyes... he knows she's hiding a secret. One he's determined to uncover.

Can Ellora stay safe in this small harbor town?
Or
Has the twisted game of cat and mouse, just begun?

Excerpt:
Ellora raced down the hallway as fast as her legs could carry her. Dread gripped her when she
heard his heavy footsteps pounding on the hardwood floors behind her. His powerful presence echoed around the eerily empty house. It didn't matter how fast she ran, he was always right on her heels. Ellora quaked violently when she made it to the stairs. If she couldn't make it out of there, she'd never survive. Reaching out, Ellora gripped the railing with both hands and used the leverage to fly down the steps. She skipped so many at a time, it felt like flying. He thundered down the steps, after her. The smell of his rancid panting, snaked its way over her shoulder. The stench stung her nose. Ellora risked looking back. His large black eyes, vicious with a murderous rage she didn’t understand, were only a few feet behind her. He was close enough to grab her. Oh. My God, this is it. He reached out... and she lunged, taking a giant leap before she got to the last three steps. She successfully made it over the carpeted runner at the bottom. Her ankles stung as she landed hard, on her bare feet. Easily ignoring the pain, Ellora sprinted to the front door. She heard him land on the runner and crashed to the floor, as it slipped out from under him. Shaking, she fumbled with clumsy fingers, trying to unlock the deadbolt and door knob lock.

After several slips from her bloodied hands, she finally heaved open the door. She skidded on her own blood, which was trickling down her legs and pooling onto the floor. The cool air rushed in, sobering her. Chills raised goosebumps on her skin as she dashed out the door. Ellora looked back to make sure he wasn’t behind her. This action caused her to lose her balance, tripping down the driveway and crashing right into the car. She remembered leaving her it unlocked, so she wrenched it open and jumped inside. She immediately locked the doors in record speed. It took only a moment for her to get a grip on her debilitating panic. She frantically searched her pockets for the car keys. First the front, then the back. Ellora froze. A devastating hopelessness made her stomach drop when she realized that she left the keys in the house. She hung her head in defeat… BANG! BANG! BANG! The sudden violent pounding sent Ellora shooting out of her seat, frightened to death as he pulverized the glass window with his fists. He stopped his onslaught abruptly and pressed his face against the window. His disturbing eyes and malicious sneer held her captive. He lifted his hand presenting a set of keys and shook them. ‘NO!’

Review:

***I was provided an ARC copy for review***

I always judge a book by if I need to force myself to put it down or if I do so willingly. This was a book where I couldn’t even force myself to put it down. I stayed up all night just to read this book even though I had to be to work bright and early. Lady J you did an amazing job with this book and I’m sure rest of the series will be just as great! You are high up on my list for Authors I love!!!

I was immediately intrigued and ignored everything around me while reading this book.  You would now know that this was Lady J’s debt novel!

The story itself started off with a bang and you are sucked in within the prologue. Ellora, the main character is running from her past life and from the monster who took away everything from her. She chose a place across the country to get away … Scotland, which just so happens to be where her parents grew up and fell in love with one another. Ellora remembered all the stories her parents told her throughout her life.

Ellora hasn’t had an easy life with her parents being killed in a car accident and then having a man attack her because she didn’t want to play games and go along with his sleazy ways. Now, she has a hard time getting close to someone and wants to keep people at a distance… until she meets Behr.

Dalton Ramsey is a very powerful and rich man, but he is also the reason why Ellora is running. He thought she was stunning and when he wanted more, she turned him down. No one ever turns him down and gets away with it… which is why he is going to make her pay. Daltons last words to her were, “I will always find you”.

In the little town Skye, Scotland, Ellora meets Behr who is instantly attracted to her. He can see through her when no one else can and questions her about her past life because he wants to know more about her, but he also wants to protect her.

The secondary characters are also amazing and the make you instantly fall in love with each of them in a different way. Grady ends up becoming a father figure to Ellora in many ways as he takes her under his wing and she also helps to get the pub looking pristine again. I also love _____! She is Ellora’s best friend in Scotland and like a sister to her. I just love how the two of them are when they are with one another!

Overall, I highly enjoyed this book! I would recommend it to anyone. I didn’t want this book to end and now I am waiting on the next book in the series to come out! When will that be Lady J?

Rating: 5/5

Author Interview

Me: What is your favorite writing style?
LJ: I love writing suspense, anything that gets my heart pumping is a plus. I wrote this book in third POV, but don't mind reading or writing in first...(I like to get inside the characters head)
Me: What do you feel is the best thing about writing?
LJ: Letting my imagination take me away, no rules or limitations! That's so much fun and exciting. Also, watching my characters develop, I literally talk about them like they are real life people.
Me: What do you do when you are not writing?
LJ: Reading! Wrangle my three beautiful girls and two fur babies. I also love being outdoors, and go shooting with the hubby. (I love big guns)
Me: Do you like reading?
LJ: I don't like reading. I LOVE reading. As a kid my household was a reading household.
Me: Who is your favorite author?
LJ: My favorite author/book is Swan Song by Robert McCammon. LOVES.
Me: What inspired you to start writing?
LJ: Forever Marked came to me as a very intense dream. The very first paragraph in the book was actually in my dream. My whole family has very bizarre and detailed dreams that we love to compare to one another. But this dream was reoccurring. I wrote chunks of the details down when I woke. My twin sister, quite literally, kicked my butt in gear. I had some written chapters and ideas but she inspired me to finish it. To keep it up.
Me: What are your ambitions?
LJ: To just love what I do, always give any and everything I do, my best.
Me: Where do your ideas come from?
LJ: For the first book the idea came to me in a dream. (See above). After that the characters took off on their own. Each one screaming at me to write their story. I'm writing the second book in the series even as we speak.
Me: Do you work from an outline, plot, or do you prefer to just see where an idea takes you?
LJ: I try to list at least basic plot points but, the story always strays from that path. I'm a die hard pantser.
Me: What is the hardest thing about writing this book?
LJ: Writing the blurb. Ugh death to blurbs. Lol this was hard for me because it was always too long. Plus I didn't want to give anything away.
Me: What was the easiest part of writing this book?
LJ: Giving my characters a personality. They pretty much do that themselves.
Me: Did you ever get writers block and if so what did you do to over come it?
LJ: I haven't had writers block yet. But, it does take me a moment to get into the zone. I have several go to songs I listen to, to get me in the right mind frame for the specific scene I'm writing. Music is my key ingredient.
Me: What are your thoughts on writing a book series?
LJ: If I'm in love with the characters, I have a hard time letting go. That's why I love a series.
Me: Do you self proofread, edit, and/ or publish this book yourself?
LJ: I have critique partners, BETA readers and I have an editor. I want this book to be the best it can be. But I am going to self publish.
Me: Tell us about the cover and who made the cover?
LJ: My MC is a tomboy plus she is on the run from a dangerous man so, I wanted something to show case that. When I saw this cover done by the lovely Airicka Phoenix Mystical Creations, I was in love! It's exactly how I imagined her.
Me: What do you have planned for future books?
LJ: I'm writing the second book in the series and have a third planned. I've also finished the first draft of a Halloween anthology that's in the works with a dozen other amazing authors. I'm really excited about it.
Me: How can readers discover more about your work?
Amazon: coming soon!

~About the Author~

I grew up in Upstate NY, but my heart belongs in Arizona. If given the chance, I'd gladly trade in frost burn, for sun burn!  I speak in movie quotes ALL the time. Seriously, it might be considered a sickness by now ;) I absolutely love the sound of others laughing. So I'll try to get you to do just that!

I love coffee, peanut butter cups, and OF COURSE reading.  I grew up causing all kinds of trouble with my twin sister/partner in crime.  My wild over-exaggerated story telling grew, along with my love for reading. With the support of my hubby and the encouragement of my womb mate, I put pen to paper, and let my imagination take over.

I am an author currently working on the release of my debut novel. Forever Marked is a romantic suspense, and the first book in a series. I enjoy reading all genres. Paranormal, thriller, romantic suspense, dystopian.... You name it!
